 Detail: close-up view with lions and brids This finely carved manuscript cover, with natural wood contrasting with red and gold paint, was repurposed during the cultural revolution to make a cutting board, with the left portion of the cover cut away to make the handle (the photo was taken with the cover upside down). The prancing lions and facing birds with elaborate tails are finely portrayed. |
